We at The Aesthetic have often been criticized for dwelling on Manhattan Beach's various flirtations over the years with overt and covert racism. For all of those who have agonized over the image we have portrayed of Manhattan Beach, we offer this tidbit from the Hermosa Review, circa 1913.

By presenting this bit of history, we don't want to imply that the KKK is still active in Hermosa Beach, or in any of the local beach cities for that matter. We also don't want to brand the beach cities' current residents as racist. We merely want to give people some perspective.
